Installing Microsoft 2008 ServerMicrosoft has released a new version of server for us administrators to administer. The new version of server is called Microsoft Server 2008.The biggest improvement is a command line only interface. This tutorial will be covering a base install of server in VMware Workstation 7.
Differences to a normal hardware install.*Hard drive is preset or defined by VMware * License information has been entered. Obtain licenses and softwareYou should pay for your software. If you are a technician and need evaluation or lab software, please see technet.com. Installing Microsoft 2008 ServerInsert the Microsoft 2008 Server CD and boot the system from that CD Rom. The new install wizard will start. You should soon see the screen below. Pick the version of Microsoft 2008 Server you wish to install. We will use Windows Server 2008 Standard (Full Installation) X86.
The copying of files and the installation of Windows Server will take a few minutes. You will also see a few reboots.
After the first reboot you should see:
It is still working.
The computer will reboot again. Then you should be able to log in. Logging in for the first time.At this screen you can hit ctrl+alt+insert to send the ctrl+alt+dekete command to the VMserver.
This will take a minute.
